do not be captivated by anyone or anything

I was with Sabrina yesterday at a vendor's office. I noticed the file she's using coz it's a very elegent black leather file. I noticed the cure tiny little logo on the file but couldn't recognize the symbol. I asked her what it was and she was surprised I didn't know. Honestly, I don't know.

I have been telling Mastura about my recent craze on all things metal, leather and canvas. I wanted a bag with a leather flap and canvas body madly. The idea of having that particular bag is gnawing at me everyday. Today, Mastura has the decency to use her leather bag. She told me about that bag yesterday when I told her about my fashion fetish. I hate her.

Just then I noticed the tiny little symbol. Hei! It's exactly same one on Sabrina's leather file. Oh, stupid me. It's MONT BLANC!

See...

After four years of using Lotus Notes Mail, you will never fail to learn something new about it once in a while. This software tool is a ubiquitous dinosaur that can be found being used only in large corporate organizations. While savvy netizens out there area embracing Google Gmail and Mozilla Thunderbird, corporate users are still languishing in the archaic PC era.

I was trying to organize my notes mail archives this morning. Mails from business associates and acquaintances are scattered in several file locations. I selected 400 mail documents and pressed Ctrl-X (cut) so that I can paste it later into the desired notes archive database. While the process was running on notes, I went over to Maybank2u to do some banking. I used the Ctrl-C (copy) command on some figures. When the I got back to notes, and the cut process has completed, I realized I can't do any copying of the email documents any more. To my horror, it's gone. The documents are not in the Clipboard anymore.

With so many documents to copy, storing in the Windows Clipboard is definitely not possible. It has to be a Notes process. Those email documents must have been cached somewhere. It has to be. I launched Windows Explorer, searched for the latest files modified in the local drive. Nothing. But hey, my notes is connected to network and uses a home directory on the server. I searched and found this curious looking file "~clipbrd.ncf" that was recently modified about the time when I was doing the cutting process. Filename is so obvious and ".ncf" stands for "Lotus Notes Internal Clipboard File". Great, first hurdle out of the way.

Filesize is about 70MB. So I copied that file first onto my local to make things faster. Tried opening the file in Lotus Notes but got the following error message:

"Database is not fully initialized yet. (It does not contain any views). You will have to use 'Replicate...' on the 'File, Replication', menu to initialize it."

I fiddled with the Replication functions in Lotus Notes to see if I can get the file to be opened. My data has got to be in there. I knew it.

Then I had an idea. Copy the file and paste a new one into the same location. Rename it with a ".nsf" extension. Open the file in Lotus Notes. Of course you will get the same error message. But this time I opened it with my Lotus Notes Designer. Apply the Lotus Notes Mail R5.0 template onto this files. Once the design template update process completed, I opened it up in Lotus Notes and no more error message. I still can't see my email documents in the Inbox. But when I click on the All Documents view, walla, my email documents are all there - all intact! Yeah! Phew!

Sigh... luckily I am a genius.

"Micasa Sucasa" means "My house is Your house".

Yesterday, in the morning, I chanced upon this lovely phrase while watching Monster-In-Law. Viola (Jane Fonda) mentioned it to Charlie (Jennifer Lopez)'s friends during the night-before-the-wedding dinner. Btw, JL is HOT in the sexy apple green dress.

Yesteday, in the afternoon, I chanced upon this phrase again while watching Madagascar when Marty the Zebra (David Schwimmer) mentioned it while inviting Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller) over to the funside of the island.

Happens once, happens twice.

PS: Stupid me, I had lived in Ampang, KL for the past 3 years. Micasa Hotel Apartments and Sucasa Service Apartments was on my daily route to and back from work but I never put the two together. Sigh... retard.

I read about Rosa Parks yesterday, about how a single black woman, for refusing to give up her bus seat for a white man forty years ago, galvanized an entire nation to fight for liberation and human dignity, and subsequently changed American history forever.

Today, the story of a black woman's disobedience to fulfill her 'duty' to give up her bus seat for a white man was briefly shown as I watched Michael Moore's Columbine for Bowling. I knew all to well who that brave woman was... :-)

Happens once, happens twice.

While the world mourns the loss of a great icon, much still needs to be done. Chivalry lives on.

I was watching Michael Moore's documentary film Columbine for Bowling (absolutely brilliant production by the way) when I spotted a black and white symbol that is unmistakenly familiar to all Malaysians. I couldn't screen-cap the shot from the film yet, but I Googled and this is what I found...

See anything similar? Coincidence maybe?

Another momentous occasion.

Google Print is finally here. This convergence of digital and print technologies truly heralds the 21st century of human civilization - albeit on a search and discovery mode only. Finding books is supposed to be easy, it seems.

Gosh, I wonder why Amazon did not do this. Copyright infringement issues and nervousnous from some prominent publishers still lingers, but history have shown that the technology tide will ensure that this will come to pass.

But to succeed, Google must be relentless in its pursuit to conquer the print world. Google Print must reach the tipping point where both producers and consumers are willing to play. Google has only started the first step to ignite this virtuous cycle. Great revolutionary technologies of recent times have utilized the wisdom of crowds. Obviously this is what Google is banking for.

If the technology world is going to excite me everyday like this, I don't think my heart can take the adrenaline rush any further. I will just die with excitement.

Finally! After weeks of inactivity, I found the 'mood' to come online again. So much have happened. Sigh, why do time flies so fast. Especially when you are enjoying every moment of it.

Major projects at work and moving to a new place really took up lots of my time. Still it was no excuse not to have updated this blog of mine... hehehe. I should have at least checked.

Anyway, staying in TTDI is really cool. Right smack in the center of everything hot and fun like Sri Hartamas, Bandar Utama, Damansara and SS2. Not even sure where to start hanging out.

Been making a list of what to do and buy for next year. Yah, I know... a little too early but no harm planning for the future.

In fact, I was seriously thinking of getting myself a K2 blades when I decided to move to TTDI two months ago. Yesterday, while I was rushing to buy some rice from the sundry shop, I stumbled upon this shop that sells nothing but K2 blades and accessories. Wah, it's so near my place! Providence.

Anyway, here's a pic to what I wake up to every morning...

Been very very very very very busy lately.

Got myself a brand new PC about three weeks ago. Badly needed a new system to do new stuff. I needed the raw processing and memory power to sustain my interests on the latest and exciting developments of frontier world of technology.

Apart from that, I've been running around to re-orientate my life again. To discover new goals, throwing out old ideals, etc. Will be moving to TTDI soon. So there's lot of packing to do since I'm a hopeless hoarder myself. Am planning to pick up tennis and rollerblading again.

Amidst all this, I should be able to find time to dedicate some time to my much neglected blog of late. More entries will be coming up... :-)

A day for contemplation

Perception in life is not defined by a long and continuous journey but rather a series of momentous singular events that shapes an individual's unique character. Each event gives rise to new perspectives, new fears, new strengths and even new ideals. By contemplating on the meaning of these events, I seek to expand my mind's vistas and thus becoming a better me.

Why GREY? Why use grey for my blog's colour theme? I had wanted silver but it's kinda hard to get that on our monitor screens don't you think... :-) Anyway being grey is COOL. Neither black nor white but somewhere in between. Reflects my view of life perfectly and totally. There are no absolute rights or absolute wrongs, in other words, no absolute truths. Our perceptions are based on conditions and our actions are based on circumstances. But our life is not all that greeeeeeeeeeey right? Yup, that's right and this is where my photos, occasionally, will add the necessary dashes of colour to my blog. Just as how dull routines at work makes chance meetings with friends so cherishable, the greyishness of my design makes my photos so much more livelier.
